Let me relate to you a conversation that seems to come up often with my clients.
Me: “So, do you have a mentor?”
Client: “Yes.”
Me: “What have they said about your current situation?”
Client: “Well, I haven’t called them to ask them about it.”
Me: “What’s stopping you?”
Client: “I don’t like to bother them. They are really busy. They have so much going on.”
Me: “Mmm, that’s interesting. Let me ask you, if you were a mentor to someone and they thought you were too busy for them, how would that make you feel?”
Client: “I’d feel pretty bad. I would want that person to always think that they could call me. I would always want to be available to them …”
(Silence)
Client: “I should call my mentor, shouldn’t I?”
Call your mentor.
